What to Know about Seatbelt Failures
Although seatbelts are designed to save lives in the case of automobile accident, they sometimes fail to do so, resulting in a car accident victim sustaining serious injuries.
If a seatbelt fails in an accident, both driver and passenger may be thrown from the car, slam into each other, hit interior parts of the car including the steering wheel, windows, windshield, or dashboard, or more, leaving them with serious injury or even resulting in death.
Defective Seatbelts and Seatbelt Failure
There are many things that can go wrong with seatbelts:
- Latch Failure – If a seatbelt system has faulty latch due to either defective manufacturing or a defective design, then a car accident victim may be thrown from the car even if they were seat belted in properly.
- Latch Plate Failure – If a seat belt’s latch plate becomes unbuckled in an accident, then it can be found to be faulty.
- Defective Webbing – Some seatbelts may have an inherent design flaw that makes the fabric prone to tearing in the case of an accident. Even if the seatbelt seems fine prior to any accident, it may still be defective.
This is why it is important to research vehicles before you buy a new or used car.
